Planning an ultrasound examination but unsure how to prepare? Don’t worry – we’ve compiled simple and clear recommendations from our ultrasound specialist for you. Proper preparation will help the doctor obtain accurate results and make the examination comfortable for you. Read on – and find out everything you need to know before your visit!

Abdominal Ultrasound 
⏱ Duration: about 20 minutes
Exam includes: liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, major abdominal vessels
Preparation:
🔹 Must be done on an empty stomach
🔹 In the morning: no eating, drinking, or smoking before the exam
🔹 If your exam is in the afternoon — avoid food, drinks, and smoking for at least 4 hours
💡 Recommendation: have a light dinner the evening before, avoid foods causing gas

Anterior Abdominal Wall & Groin Area Ultrasound
⏱ Duration: about 20 minutes
Exam includes: anterior abdominal wall, groin area
Indications: hernias, stretch marks
Preparation:
🔹 No preparation required
🔹 Can be performed at any time

Urinary System Ultrasound
⏱ Duration: about 20 minutes
Exam includes: kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder
Preparation:
🔹 Fill your bladder: drink 1 liter of still water 1 hour before the exam
🔹 Do not urinate before the exam or hold urine for at least 3 hours

Breast Ultrasound
⏱ Duration: about 20 minutes
🔹 No preparation required
👩🏻 For women: recommended between the 4th and 10th day of the menstrual cycle
👨🏼‍🦰👦🏻 For men and children: in case of pain, lumps, or visible changes

Pelvic Organs Ultrasound (transvaginal)

Preparation:
