April 19 — World Speech Therapist Day!

April 19 — World Speech Therapist Day!

Today we sincerely thank all speech therapists — specialists who help children and adults overcome speech difficulties, find confidence in their voice, and unlock their communication potential. Your work is truly invaluable!

To celebrate this day, we’ve prepared 5 useful speech therapy tips to help improve speech at any age. These simple but effective recommendations will be useful for anyone who wants to speak clearly, beautifully, and confidently.

1. Breathing is the foundation of proper speech

Speech starts with breathing. Focus on slow, deep breathing through your nose followed by a calm exhale through your mouth. This not only helps form sounds correctly but also reduces anxiety, relaxes the vocal cords, and improves voice control.

Tip: try breathing exercises like “candle” or “feather in the wind” — suitable even for the little ones!

2. Develop your articulatory muscles

Clear diction depends on the flexibility and strength of the muscles responsible for articulation. Daily articulation exercises help improve speech clarity and eliminate issues like lisping or nasal sounds.

Example exercise: make your tongue show a “swing”, “clock”, or “paint the ceiling” — fun and effective!

3. Speak clearly with pauses

Speaking shouldn’t be a race. Slow, measured speech with pauses allows you to better form your thoughts, control your intonation and pace. Especially helpful for children with delayed speech or communication difficulties.

Tip: practice with poems or tongue twisters — pronounce them slowly and clearly.

4. Read aloud

Regular reading aloud improves vocabulary, diction, and overall literacy. It’s also a wonderful family tradition! Speak with expression and pay attention to difficult sounds.

Tip: pick favorite children’s books or classic literature — both fun and beneficial!

5. Regularity and patience

Speech development is a process that takes time. But results will come! Practice daily, and don’t give up after the first difficulties. Every success is a step forward.

Reminder: support from loved ones and a positive atmosphere is the key to successful speech learning!

Happy professional holiday to all speech therapists!

Your work changes lives and gives people the power to be heard. Thank you for your dedication, inspiration, and love for what you do!
