Testicular ultrasound is a completely non-invasive, painless, and entirely safe examination used in the prevention and diagnosis of testicular disorders.
It uses the properties of ultrasound waves emitted by a special probe that penetrate deep into the body. These waves reflect off tissues, and the echo returns to the probe and is transformed by the computer into images visible on the monitor. This allows the doctor to obtain a precise image of all the structures and tissues of the testes.
Indications for Testicular Ultrasound
Testicular ultrasound is performed for patients experiencing the following symptoms:- testicular pain,
- perineal pain,
- testicular swelling,
- presence of blood in the ejaculate,
- erectile problems,
- infertility. The most commonly diagnosed conditions using testicular ultrasound include undescended testes, testicular inflammation, hydrocele, varicocele, testicular hematomas, abscesses, or testicular torsion. Testicular ultrasound is also very helpful in diagnosing mechanical injuries and testicular cancer.
