Ultrasound of muscles, soft tissues, and periarticular structures is a primary imaging test for diagnosing injuries and diseases of muscles and surrounding tissues. It is safe, painless, and completely non-invasive.
USG of muscles, soft tissues, and periarticular structures allows for the diagnosis of injuries, damage, and various abnormalities not only within the muscle but also in all surrounding tissues. These include muscle-tendon junctions, tendons with attachments, muscle bellies, as well as tendon sheaths, bursae, vessels, nerves, fascia, and subcutaneous tissue.
Indications for Muscle and Tendon Ultrasound
USG of muscles, soft tissues, and periarticular structures is used for diagnosing:- muscle or tendon strains,
- muscle or tendon ruptures,
- bruising of muscles or soft tissues,
- localized soft tissue pain,
- muscle or tendon overuse conditions,
- nerve compression by hematomas and muscle swelling,
- presence of foreign bodies in soft tissues. Additionally, USG of muscles allows for the assessment of muscle-tendon apparatus rotation or the detection of changes such as tumors or cysts.
